Missing teeth aren’t just cosmetic — they affect chewing, speaking, and even the shape of your jaw over time. Dental implants remain the gold standard for permanent tooth replacement. Here’s what the full journey looks like.

What is a dental implant?

An implant is a small titanium screw that acts as a replacement tooth root. Once it fuses with your jawbone (a process called osseointegration), a crown is attached on top — creating a permanent, natural-feeling replacement.

The step-by-step journey

Step 1: Consultation & 3D scan

We assess bone density, gum health, and treatment options. A 3D CBCT scan maps your jaw in detail — critical for precise placement.

Step 2: Implant placement surgery

A minor 45–60 minute procedure under local anaesthesia. Most patients report far less discomfort than they expected. You leave the same day.

Step 3: Healing period (3 – 6 months)

The implant fuses with bone during this time. You’ll wear a temporary tooth, so nobody notices anything unusual.

Step 4: Crown placement

Once healing is complete, a custom-milled zirconia crown is attached. From this point, the implant functions exactly like a natural tooth.

Recovery: what actually happens

  • Day 1 – 3: Mild swelling and soreness, easily managed with over-the-counter painkillers
  • Day 4 – 7: Return to normal eating (soft foods first)
  • Week 2: Full daily activities resume
  • Month 3 – 6: Implant fully integrated

Are you a candidate?

Most healthy adults with sufficient jawbone are excellent candidates. Even patients with bone loss can often proceed after a bone graft.
