Dental anxiety is more common than most people realise — nearly 1 in 4 adults avoid the dentist because of fear. If that’s you, this article is for you.

Where dental fear comes from

Most dental anxiety traces back to a bad experience in childhood, or stories heard from family and friends. Modern dentistry is dramatically different from what many people fear — but changing that perception takes intentional effort.

What we do differently at ToothInc

1. Longer consultations

Your first visit is a 45-minute conversation. No dental tools. We simply talk through your concerns and treatment options at your pace.

2. On-site psychologist

Raisa Kaur, our in-house psychologist, helps anxious patients build coping strategies before treatment even begins.

3. Sedation options

For serious anxiety, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oral sedation. Both are completely safe and let you sleep through longer procedures.

4. Designer clinic environment

Our space intentionally doesn’t look or smell like a traditional dental clinic. Calming colours, natural light, soft music, comfortable seating.

Practical techniques you can try

  • Book morning appointments — you’ll spend less time dreading it
  • Use hand signals — agree with your dentist on a “pause” signal before starting
  • Bring noise-cancelling headphones — dental sounds are often the biggest trigger
  • Practice breathing — 4 seconds in, 6 seconds out, repeated during treatment
  • Ask for a mirror — some patients feel more in control watching what’s happening

You’re not alone

Every day at ToothInc, patients tell us “I’ve avoided the dentist for 10 years.” We understand. And we’ve helped hundreds of them get back to healthy dental care without fear.
